Matthew Morrison is going solo

At least for the Summer, that is… it seems that while “Glee” will be taking a break during the next few months, Matthew Morrison will not be sitting on his arse doing nothing, but rather going ahead and recording his first solo album. This is what he had to say about his endeavor: “I’m writing all the music for it. It’s me and a big orchestra behind me.” Matthew Morrison also mentioned that the record will be a cross between Justin Timberlake and Michael Buble. Aw… he spoiled the whole surprise of it! Now nobody but the “Glee” freaks will be buying it. But wait… could it be that Matthew Morrison was actually counting on just that all along?

Brandon Flowers Talks Solo Album

While The Killers are on break from recording new music, their lead singer Brandon Flowers is prepping his first solo album ‘Flamingo’ which is set for a fall release. He recently sat down to talk about the process and who he’s worked with. Brandon has a duet with Rilo Kiley’s Jenny Lewis and collaborating with producers Stuart Price (Madonna and Kylie Minogue), Daniel Lanois (Bob Dylan and U2) and Brendan O’Brien (Bruce Springsteen and Neil Young). Brandon said “It’s a pretty good line-up, I think. Stuart and Daniel have been working together, and I’ve done another three tracks with Brendan on his own. Jenny’s helped me out on a couple of songs, and we also get to duet on the record, on a song called Hard Enough, which turned out great. She’s always popped into my mind whenever I think about getting a female vocalist involved because she’s a fellow child of Las Vegas, too. It’s all very rooted right here in Las Vegas dirt.”

Britney Spears’ new producer

Is none other than OneRepublic’s front man, Ryan Tedder, who recently buried the hatchet with Kelly Clarkson so he though it would be a good time to reveal that he will also be working with Britney Spears on her upcoming album. This is definitely a new twist for Britney Spears, but we’re only talking a few tracks here out of a complete, full-length album. Maybe Ryan Tedder will even bring in Kelly Clarkson to try her voice at a duet of Britney Spears. After all, if their names sell so good apart, just think how good they’d do combined… or so the theories go.

Lil’ Kim is coming back

For the fans out there both old and maybe someday even new, Lil’ Kim is coming back. The singer recently signed a record deal with Roc Nation and there are even rumors that Jay-Z will be the one to produce her upcoming album. Five years is a long enough time, Lil’ Kim will have much to remember about life in the spotlight and things are no more as they once were. But with Jay-Z to guide her steps she’s bound to catch on to things quite easily. And in the hip-hop world there’s not that much competition so it should be a synch to get going.

The Strokes are back on the job

It was probably about time for them to do so. It looks like The Strokes are back to recording a new album after having taken a four year break. Julian Cassablancas has recently announced that it might turn up in January and also that The Strokes are recording in New York now instead of Los Angeles. This is what he said on the matter: “For me, there’s something about recording in New York – I was just thinking about it literally yesterday for the first time, in terms of if I could have a choice, because everywhere I’ve ever recorded has kinda been like a logical choice or out of necessity. But there’s something about recording in a nice studio in New York. Maybe it’s just because it’s expensive, I dunno. Recording in LA is nice though.” Given their extensive, three-album discography, Julian Cassablancas sure must’ve recorded in a lot of places around the world… that’s how you know he knows what he’s talking about.

Public Enemy’s fan-funded album

It seems that the rap group has found a very interesting way of getting a new album out: they’re going to do it with the help of their fans. That’s right… Public Enemy is inviting their fans to donate money so that they can release a new album and in turn, apart from the album itself, the donators will also get a part of the profits. This is what a statement from the band said: “We have learned that the fan-funding model is still not fully developed and, as a result, a $250,000 fund-raising effort, while possible, will take too long to accomplish…As a result of our SellaBand experience and all that we have learned, we now believe that a $75,000 fund raising target will fulfil the needs for a new recording project and is much more appropriate for the strength of the existing SellaBand model and the current economic climate.” Right, as if the music industry wasn’t whoring these people out enough, now they want to do it to themselves. Well, if there was anyone suited for pioneering this new direction they’re probably not going to do it so all we have is Public Enemy.

It seems that splitting from Ashley Cole has left Cheryl Cole with a bit vanity in excess and what better to do with it but release a book with photos in order to chronicle her evolution over the past years. This is what Cheryl Cole said on the matter: : “I think looking at pictures is a bit like listening to music – it reminds you of what was happening and how you were feeling at certain times in your life. Sometimes I look at old pictures and I can’t believe that was me. I think we all do that.” And most certainly everybody who buys this photo album will feel exactly the same way since all humans are in perfect sync when it comes to emotions.

Ice Cube reunites with Dr. Dre

The rapper will not only be coming back, but he will be coming back in a very big way. It looks like Ice Cube plans on reuniting with Dr. Dre on his upcoming album, “I am the west”. This is what the rapper wrote on the matter on his blog: “I wanna answer a few questions you have for ya’ boy – Beats by Dre? Not yet. Haven’t asked him, but I will. Any collabos? Not yet. I would give you guys the concept but I’mma save that and let you see it for yourself. Now I know it seems like my record is West Coast crazy- Yeah it is. But I got a lot of real shit to say on this record just like I always do. So my political fans won’t be disappointed.” Well, none of Ice Cube’s fans will probably be disappoint it. After all, what reason would Dr. Dre have to turn his old war-buddy down? It’s not like he’s got anything better to do.

Billy Corgan rattling the cage of snakes

It looks like the singer from Smashing Pumpkins likes to play with fire… a lot. He recently commented on the new Hole album and on the band’s key member, Courtney Love. This is what Billy Corgan said: I have no interest in supporting her in any way, shape or form. You can’t throw enough things down the abyss with a person like that.” Oh contraire… Courtney Love is actually a walking abyss that eats everything up and spits out explosions. One would shudder to think what she will have to say to Billy Corgan after his unflinching defiance… or maybe even do.

New Music from Ice Cube

After taking a hiatus to work on his acting career, Ice Cube is finally coming out with a new studio album. The rapper broke the news via his blog recently, saying “‘I Am The West’ is the name of my new record. After completing about 65 per cent of my music, this is the new perfect title. This shit is cocky, no apologies, West Coast gangsta shit. I can’t help it. That’s what I do… June seems too tight for a release, but July is very doable. We’ll see how things go. Now that I have my title, I can work on the concept of my photoshoot and artwork. I want to provide.”

Jack White helps his wife with music

It seems that the multi-talented musician will be using all of his knowledge to help his wife, Karen Elson, launch her music career. Jack White has even gone so far as to produce her upcoming album and also releasing it through his label. It definitely pays to marry into the music business, doesn’t it? And with Karen Elson’s previous experience and Jack White’s all around know-how, they will rule the world together! Or at least that small segment interested in hearing the music of the wife of Jack White. She already even has a fan base right there without even releasing one song.

American Idol album sales not going well

It does seem that a breath of fresh air is needed around this sector as all American Idol-related record sales seem to have gone down the past week. Maybe it is just a minor setback before the great revelation that is to be this season even though the female performances of last night were not as amazing as was hoped. Still, there is promise of the future and that promise probably has The X Factor written all over it. After all, Simon Cowell may be a good sport, but when it comes to sinking your own boat, the Earl of Exigency is probably not that good a captain.

Devo’s getting a new album out

The already legendary band is apparently cooking up a new album for the near future. But that’s not the interesting part… that comes when you find out that Devo chose Santigold to produce this new release. They chose Santigold out of tons of offers including from Snoop Dogg and Fatboy Slim. It is puzzling indeed, but what is more puzzling is that a band like Devo actually needs a producer for their album. Did all those years of fun in the sun put a bit of rust in the old hinges? Or perhaps a lot of rust in the hinges by the looks of things.

Kanye West goes humble

After his September incident, not much has been heard for or from Kanye West. And now that Entertainment Weekly has declared his debut the album of the decade, Kanye West couldn’t help but comment on the matter on his blog… in a very surprising manner: “WOW… THIS IS REALLY FLATTERING… I’VE HAD SOME UPS AND DOWNS THIS YEAR, WELL ACTUALLY THIS DECADE. JUST SEEING THIS COVER TAKES ME BACK TO THAT TIME OF MY LIFE. I REMEMBER HOW MUCH PAIN AND LOVE WENT INTO THIS ALBUM. NO ONE SAW IT COMING.” Well, writing in caps probably helped Kanye West release some of that amazingly large ego of his without using too many “big words”. But hey, maybe he’s really changed.
