Probably not enough to fill the shoes, but Bret Michaels is most likely going to do as the new American Idol. Maybe he’ll even keep the show from falling apart since he seems to have gained the majority of votes in a poll about who should be the next judge. This is what Bret Michaels said about the possibility of going on as judge in Simon Cowell’s stead: “I would love to be a judge on American Idol. I think I would bring a lot to the table. I’m not built exactly like Simon Cowell, but, at the same time, I respect what he did. I would have to bring my own personality. I think if they have someone in there to try to imitate Simon, it would be a mistake; he’s an original. Bring Bret Michaels in to be original… Bring someone who can bring a little grit, true grit, back to the show.” Well, he’s certainly setting off to it with the right attitude. Maybe the show can indeed be saved.

American Idol alum David Archuleta has released his autobiography entitled ‘Chords of Strength: A Memoir of Soul, Song and the Power of Perseverance’. At the ripe age of 19, what exactly does he have to write about? The singer said “I’m hoping that people will find things in common with me. I know I haven’t lived for the longest time, but I have learned things.” If you say so. At least he wasn’t denying the fact that he probably isn’t going to have a lot of stories given his age. I wish he could have just worked on a new album instead of this. Will you be buying his book?

Simon Cowell and Ricky Minor weren’t the only American Idol regulars that said goodbye to the show last week. Dorian Holley, the Vocal Coach and Associate Musical Director, also said goodbye to the show and, just like band leader Ricky, is also heading for The Tonight Show. Dorian was also the Vocal Director for Michael Jackson and was a key part in the London tour that never happened. Dorian will become the lead singer in The Tonight Show band. So if you’re looking for a job behind the scenes in Hollywood, there are a lot of openings on American Idol.

And this is the shocking surprise he had in store for all of them: “I can’t say this is true yet, cause I don’t know. Next year they asked me to possibly be the judge on American Idol.” Well, well, isn’t this a fine turn of events? Simon Cowell eat your hearts out… well, maybe not now, but as soon as Bret Michaels fills his shoes and then takes it up a notch. Or at least that’s the plan.

American Idol is really becoming one very rude TV show. The reality talent competition show may have higher ratings but ‘Glee’ fans deserve to enjoy their show in full. For the third time since the return of the comedy series, American Idol went over in time and ended up cutting the last song on ‘Glee’ for those taping it on their DVRs. How many more times is AI going to do that? It’s getting really old. I say just cut AI short and make way for ‘Glee’. It’s not like there’s anything worthy to watch on AI now anyway. Who wants to watch Ryan Seacrest attempt to be like Paula Abdul anyway?

Last night on American Idol the contestants had to chose a song they found inspirational and Tim Urban went with Goo Goo Dolls’ “Better Days”. However, the contest wonder apparently played what might come to pass as his subtle card from now on since the performance was neither good, nor bad. As Randy Jackson put it: “It was just OK, good karaoke for me.” Kara Dioguardi was slightly satisfied too, while Simon Cowell and Ellen Degeneres didn’t quite like Tim Urban’s latest performance. Not so much as to cause shock and awe, but not so little as to get him off of the contest… there is probably more strategy and planning to Tim Urban’s performances than he lets on.

Not only is Ryan Seacrest showing up drunk for the show, but now Crystal Bowersox is apparently thinking of quitting the show because of the busy schedule. However, it was Ryan Seacrest that managed to convince her otherwise by saying: “The greatest thing I ever did was make enough money so I could buy my mom a house. You can buy your mom a house.” It seems that was enough to make Crystal Bowersox stay on the show and that’s a very good thing because when the full power of Tim Urban will be unleashed, all champions of the light must be there to stop it.

Here are her words on the matter: “It bothers me when people take themselves too seriously. It’s like, loosen the fuck up. At the end of the day, this is entertainment. We should be entertained. I’ve gone through the ‘12-Step Hip-Hop Program’: the mixtapes, the DVDs, the low-budget videos, the small shows. I thank God that I wasn’t signed years ago and that I didn’t have a hit record before I did the grind. I’m ready now.” There’s a twelve-step program for hip-hop? That’s probably just because they don’t have a rap section for American Idol, but maybe Simon Cowell will solve that with his new show, then Nicki Minaj can go over there and not take herself too seriously and just entertain away.

The American Idol sensation has fallen a bit behind this week since she swapped her guitar for a piano. Her song choice, “Midnight Train to Georgia” from Gladys Knight and the Pips, was apparently a very good one, at least according to Simon Cowell, but the performance was lacking in something. This is what the Earl of Exigency said about Crystal Bowersox’s singing last night: “With your talent … just do what’s comfortable with you and don’t change into something which you’re not, because you don’t need to.” Strange that it was he who suggested she try something different from the guitar in the past of this season, but then again, who pays attention to all of these details and to a little thing called consistency. That is not an issue in the world of American Idol and Crystal Bowersox might need to consider that in order to climb back up the rankings.

According to Star magazine, next year will be American Idol’s tenth and final season. A source said “Producers know Simon really makes the show, and they feel like they could go only one season without him and the quality will suffer after that.” And apparently, everyone involved with the reality TV competition show wants AI to go out on a high note so “they’re going to bring in an all-star list on guest judges, including past winners like Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood.” I hope this isn’t true. AI has become a pop culture icon. They should at least see how the next season will do without Simon Cowell before deciding whether or not to cancel it.

The American Idol contestant seems to have regained as much of her touch as could have been expected last night as her performance was the one that impressed the judges the most. Crystal Bowersox chose for her big moment “Me and Bobby McGee” by Kris Kristofferson and performed it to magnificence, or so Randy Jackson seems to have thought: “That’s what is called being a star! And a dope singer! Right there! I’m so happy now!” Simon Cowell however is still his good-old reserved, grumpy self even when it comes to Crystal Bowersox’s performance: “Up until now, we’ve been listening to a karaoke competition. You just took a song, nailed it, and your only gimmick is a carpet.” However she does seem to have the competition in the bag… either that or she is using up all of the cards in her sleeve right now. Maybe nothing will be left at the end.

Since he hasn’t made such good headway with his voice up until now, Tim Urban decided last night that he might try impressing everybody with his vocal skills. So the American Idol contestant took the Rolling Stones’ “Under my thumb” and turned it into a sort of reggae song. Of the four judges, Kara DioGuardi is the only one who was truly impressed: “Whether you like it or not, you made it your own.” Simon Cowell however thought that it wasn’t the best of decisions and Randy Jackson and Ellen DeGeneres weren’t very supportive of Tim Urban either. It looks like it may very well be the end of the line for little Tim this time around… unless he’s saving the best of this week for tomorrow. That would be quite the interesting surprise.
