It seems the band is really getting into the swing of things these days. Arctic Monkeys are apparently nominated for seven awards at this year’s Shockwave New Musical Experts. The band’s front man, Alex Turner, is himself up for two additional awards. He had this to say about the Arctic Monkeys’ recent success: “It’s a good thing knowing we’re still up for these awards. Kasabian have said that there aren’t any other proper rock bands apart from us and them. I don’t necessarily agree completely but I know what they’re saying. I think we’re just co-existing very nicely.” It must be a reciprocal back-scratching thing between Arctic Monkeys and Kasabian, but just wait until the award ceremonies start running short. Then we shall see who has the real punk attitude.

Now this is a news item to behold. It seems that the notorious rapper Diddy has been invited to join the rock group Arctic Monkeys. Diddy wrote the following on Twitter: “Just kickin’ it wit my boy Matt [Helders] from the Arctic Monkeys! I’m the newest member of the group! I’m signing him to Bad Boy!” What kind of party did they have? What are they on? How drunk did Diddy get… or, moreover, how drunk were the guys from Arctic Monkeys that things evolved to the point where they invited the rapper to join, not collaborate, but downright join their band. But, why be so amazed? After all, it should be a real blast to watch Diddy singing in a rock group… maybe he’ll even grow long hair.

Dizzee Rascal has spoken on the great inspiration he takes from Arctic Monkeys’ work ethic.

Rapper Dizzee, real-name Dylan Mills, says that he is following in frontman Alex Turner’s footsteps by “getting it all out while he’s young”.

He said: “I haven’t seen much of Alex recently because he’s so busy. He’s got his hands full doing Arctic Monkeys and The Last Shadow Puppets and loads of other stuff. I admire that, it’s cool. He’s getting it all out while he’s young. You’ve got to. It’s inspiring and I totally relate to it. I’m following the same path.”

Dizzee also revealed that he loves that his music has become more popular, because now mums like him!

He explained: “It’s great being an artist today. You feel like you can do what you want. What I’m doing with mash-ups and collaborations has become mainstream. People’s mums are into me these days and everything.”
