Coldplay and their record label are giving the little people a chance to open for the group in San Jose, Chicago, Philadelphia, Hartford, Washington DC and Boston by entering an online contest. To enter, bands need to submit an original performance via YouTube. But before you enter, read the fine print closely as your YouTube performance can be used in ways that you’re not happy with and you won’t be able to do anything about it. There’s even a rule that the record company can place your song on a compilation album and they wouldn’t be required to pay a cent. Also, by submitting you performance, the record label has the exclusive option to sign your band to a crappy deal. Coldplay may be a big band but they’re not worth selling your soul.

Chris Martin believes Coldplay have failed as a band — because they are not big enough in the karaoke market yet.
The frontman has made some pretty outrageous comments recently — like confessing to a secret love of Westlife and Peter Andre. But aiming for success with singalong sessions is the most odd yet.
He said: “I’m really determined there should be more Coldplay songs in karaoke bars. I’ve been into them and you open the lyrics book and there are a million Beatles songs. There’s dozens of Abba, Culture Club or even Bucks Fizz, but Coldplay? There will be two or at best three. If we could just get eight in every bar worldwide I’d be happy. I would know we’ve made it. I think there are three karaoke possibilities on Viva La Vida. It surely has to be the ultimate measure of success.”
Chris readily admits his own attempt at karaoke is less than stellar.
He added: “I got up in a bar one night with my mate Tim Wheeler (from Ash) and we chose Bohemian Rhapsody. It was appalling.”

According to reports, we can now own the new Coldplay album ‘Viva La Vida’ for half the usual price. Whatever it takes to publicize and sell albums, right? The band recently announced a buy one get one free offer on internet downloads saying “Buy one get one free, it comes from working in Kwik Save (British budget supermarket), I think. As I said before nobody buys albums any more, certainly no body buys full albums and we’ve made an album that you have to have from start to finish.” Record stores must be fuming about this. Why buy the release in stores when you can get it for half the price online?

First there was Radiohead and then Oasis. Metallica says they’re about to do it and now, Coldplay wants a piece of the action too. The UK band is giving away their music for free! Starting this past Tuesday at 12:15 PM UK time, Coldplay’s new song ‘Violet 4:11’ could be downloaded for one week only at Coldplay.com. In addition to that, London and New York City based fans will get free shows. There’s no clue as to whether any more songs will be for free but their new album ‘Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends’ will drop on June 12.
