Fretz SH Jewelers Sledge Hammer
The SH Jewelers Sledge Hammer is a hefty tool; the largest of the Fretz hammer line.
It features a huge, 5-3/8" long, stainless steel head with polished faces. The handle is a thick, axe-style handle made of smooth, beautiful Padauk wood. At 1.65lb, the Jewelers Sledge is a formidable hammer.
The head of the Jewelers Sledge is similar to that of a goldsmiths hammer with a 1-1/8" (27mm) diameter round face and 2024 a 1" x 1-1/4" (25 x 6mm) wedge face.
Bill Fretz described the Jewelers Sledge this way
"The Fretz Jewelers Sledge Hammer is designed for forging heavy wire, rod or sheet. The relatively small round face, on a large hammer, is desinged so the work is visible as the hammer is descedning towards the project. The curved handle makes the hammer easy to hold while the wieght of the head does most of the work.
The craftsperson chokes up on the handle while using the crosspein end. This gives a comfortable holding position while the shorter grip helps with hammering accuracy need with the crosspein end."
Overall length of the hammer is approximately 11-1/8".
