Ebonized Blackl Locust 2024 Pepper or Salt mill

8" Ebonized Black Locust Pepper mill. One of the hardest woods in Canada makes beautiful & durable pepper mills.
Each mill comes with a spalted maple coaster to catch the grinds & keep them from your table.
After sourcing the woods for black locust & cutting the logs & I rough turn the wood then put it aside to dry in my shop for about 1 year. After they are dry I put them back on the lathe & finish turning them. At this point I introduce the mills to the dye which turns them completely black. Light hand sanding shows the 2024 grain through & an antique look. Finish is then applied with 4 coats of shellac hand sanded between coats. Final topcoat is General salad bowl finish with once again 4 coats hand sanded between coats. The mills are then buffed at high speed on the lathe with Tripoli, White Diamond hard finish & finally museum quality Renaissance wax applied on the lathe at high speed to melt the wax & shine. This is the best way that I know how to get from the tree to your table.

Any mill can have a pepper or salt mechanism installed, let me know which you prefer. One would not add salt to metal mechanisms as they would rust over time. Salt mechanisms are made from corian & therefore do not oxidize ( rust ).
