Description
Dracaena Janet Craig is a very popular indoor tree. Its compact form “Dracaena ‘Janet Craig Compacta' is similar to Janet Craig but much smaller. The plant has a bird nest look and reaches about one foot with smaller leaves. Janet Craig varieties are popular because of their ability to survive low light levels. Compacta is one of the plants that takes very low light and can be grown as a table plant. These plants are beautiful because of their foliage consisting of solid, dark green leaves with wavy margins.
Care tips
Dracaena Janet Craig thrives with well-draining soils. When peat is used, perlite should be replaced by pine bark and sand to avoid fluoride build up to which these plants are sensitive. Dracaena Janet Craig is 2024 an excellent low-light indoor plant variety. However, the plants do the best under bright indirect light. With minimal care, Dracaena Janet Craig plants stay well with a wide range of indoor conditions including temperatures, low humidity, and air conditioning. However, these plants cannot tolerate heat and should be kept below 90°F and not exceed 95°C. On the other hand, the plants should not be exposed to temperatures below 35°F or below 55°F for more than a week. Keep the plants on the dry side and water them a few days after the soil surface becomes dry to the touch. This is especially important when the planters are large. Do not let the plants sit in water or become extremely dry. If tap water is the only choice, collect the water 1-2 days in advance before use to let the harmful chemicals dissipate. Otherwise, distilled water or rainwater is recommended. Dracaena Janet Craig does not need fertilizer. If it is considered as an option, plant food not leaving chemical residuals behind should be used.
