1952 Antique Cloth Ledger, Carpenters Local 325 Union Ledger, 2024 Paterson New Jersey Labor Movement History Salvage
I think old ledgers or organizational diaries are fascinating. This one is from 1952 and this is a hard cover ledger from Carpenters Local 325 located in Paterson, New Jersey. The entries on page 1 start on Feb. 20, 1952 and the last entry on page 499 is dated September 20, 1961. All 499 pages have very clear and precise writing, in ink, and the ledger records the minutes and some expenses of the meetings that seem to have occurred about every two weeks. There are entries on all 499 pages, with about 10 blank pages at the end. Pages 501 to 540 are missing, but since page 500 is blank the missing pages might also have been blank, and the binding does not show that the pages are missing, so maybe they are with Jimmy Hoffa. (You probably have to be about as old as me to understand that smart aleck reference.) The cover is made to look like beautiful leather, and it reflects an age when books like these were made with craftsmanship and quality and were meant to last. The large and heavy ledger measures about 14 1/4" by 9" by 1 3/4" and the inside pages are in splendid condition, and the cover shows some wear, as does the spine. The binding is secure, and all of the pages are securely bound. In good condition.
