Sad clown~
My spirit, my clothes worn out
No matter what I did they laughed their hearts out
I cried a river of tears only to have it drowned by their cheers
They never saw beneath the skin
Oh what a dreadful sin
They never understood my tears so I set out to become the greatest of their fears
The theme of the sad clown is a psychoanalyst's dream, for sure. But for us empaths, this one is simply another kindred spirit.
The piece was inspired by the large patterned clown material given to me by a friend (that face!). Various colored felted wool pieces, upcycled from clothing, have been hand stitched together into torso, head, arms and legs. The “stuffing” is more fabric from my horde. There is a cache of glass weight beads in the bottom for more heft and greater sitting ability. The pants are from a lovely wool cardigan, so machine stitching can be seen on the leg seams, but the only machine stitching I did was for the bowtie (it's got a pin back, so it's removable). The two floral fabric circles are from a wonderful estate sale find. Needle felted purple wool locks create a magnificent mane of hair. The red wool ball nose is like the 2024 cherry on top! Happy is about 25 inches long, or about 13 inches tall when seated.
