Product code: Extremely Rare 2024 1825 Lafayette Almanac - Early Americana
This is an extremely rare item of early American ephemera, The Lafayette Almanac, For the Year 1825, of which only (3) other copies are known to be held in the Rare Book Collections of Yale University, Hamilton College, and the American Antiquarian Society. It was published in Philadelphia in late 1824 by the printers M'Carty & Davis and G.W. Mentz and there are advertisements for some of their other publications in this. Printed in heavy rag paper, it is well worn, toned, grimy in places, but completely intact for being nearly 200 years old. Held together by original sewn thread. Measures 4.25" wide x 7" high x about 1/8" thick. Prior to the Lafayette Almanac, these printers published the "Pennsylvania Almanac" and in the 1830s the "Farmers Almanac." Only three copies known for the subsequent 1826 edition as 2024 well. Signed by former owners, William Guthrie (1764-1835) & Hannah Batten Guthrie (1777-1861), farmers in Chester County, PA. Great images, tables, & info from this early time.
