Hand built ceramic tile, can be hung on a wall or displayed as is. This piece is one of a kind, I make some pieces similar but there are always variations in method and decoration.
This tile was made with a stoneware/porcelain clay that is fired to cone 6 in my Skutt electric kiln. Manganese stain was used for details, with bone glaze over the entire tile. Color is more true to the first pic.
This piece was created in my home studio in Olds, Alberta, Canada. I am a hand builder, working with Plainsman M370 clay which is a cone 6 clay that has properties of both a stoneware and a porcelain clay. I use slips, underglazes and glazes to decorate my creations. I use methods such as sgrafitto, sculpture, slip casting and 2024 hand building to create these items.
