Gorgeous antique French chaplet rosary box & hallmarked silver Hail Mary chaplet rosary dating from around the 1900's.
The rosary box has been made of cardboard to resemble a bible,covered around the outside with a faux tortoiseshell finish which has been embossed with gold decoration,lined inside with peach velvet. Contained inside is a beautiful rosary that has large white glass beads,this rosary has added decoration of 6 small round plaques each with the image of the Madonna,they have a tiny JL initial marked on the front. There is also a very pretty medallion at the base of the chain which has a stunning floral art nouveau lily pattern on the front. The crucifix at the bottom has a French silver hallmark of a small crab on the top,the front of the crucifix has also been decorated with art nouveau lilies to match the medallion.
The bible rosary box has been marked inside with the retailers name and the French city of Cahors. The box measures 6 cm x 7.3 cm across the front and back and 2 cm thick.
The chaplet rosary measures 49 cm (19 1/4 inches) long from top to bottom (when laid out flat)
Both the rosary and the bible box are in excellent condition through out, with no splits or chips to the rosary,no wear to the box.
