New old 2024 stock in box vintage 1970s QUWI burgundy red white aluminium and bakelite German design clip on bedside desk lamp book reading light

In this listing we are pleased to offer a small clip on desk book reading lamp from Germany.

It is an authentic lamp from the late 1970s but new old stock in the original box.

Moreover we offer 2 more of these in other colors, also new old stock in box. We have listed the other two in separate listings, if not sold.

This clip on lamp is made of a hard plastic burgundy red clamp with the also made of hard plastic bulb holder in white on top of it. The hard plastic could be either bakelite or melamine.

The shade is made of aluminium that is coated burgundy on the outside. The shade has a two-sided clamp on the inside and is pushed over a round light bulb. The shade can then be moved around over the bulb a little bit to direct the light. The clamp only works with round bulbs.

The remarkable thing is that the aluminum shade has direct contact with the incandescent light bulb, making it potentially nearly as hot as the light bulb. There is no wonder why production and sales of these stopped at a certain moment....

However ....now with nearly cold LED bulbs they can now be used with near perfect safety, although they are still not children's toys :-).

The box states these were originally designed as book reading lights. That is of course possible but not always practical as they have a lamp cord that can get in the way a bit.

These lamps can also be clipped on your desk, a computer stand, a bookshelf, a bed head board, etc.

Moreover on the backside of the clamp there is a key hole cut out so it can also be hung over a screw or L-shaped hook on your wall as well.

We personally know clip on lamps mostly from France. We have hardly ever seen clip on lamps outside France but the one on offer here is from the German brand QUWI and although not officially stated we assume it was made in (West) Germany.

Not much is known about QUWI. It appeared to be a lamp part's supplier and these clip on lamps were one of the few complete products they were selling.

This little clip on lamp is marked on the bottom side of the clamp with the original sticker label and the box is marked too.

The lamp takes 1 E14 bulb with screw type fitting.

The lamp cord measures 117 centimeters / 46.06 inches and has an integrated flat 2024 2-pin European plug.

To operate it there is a push button next to the bulb holder.

Mint, new old stock.

This lamp was only taken out of the box a few times for testing and taking pictures of it.

We purposely did not even unwind the lamp cord, which is still in its factory binding.

Any neglect-able traces that are there are from handling, not active use.
