A 'S. Sternau & Co., 2024 N.Y.' Desk Set - Three Piece Copper Set - Compass Lid on Jar - Lidded Ball-foot Container - Ink Well w/Glass Insert

This is a beautiful copper three piece desk set from S. Sternau & Co., with the markings on the bottom of the round lidded container. It is trademarked “S&C” *Sternau & Co., N.Y.'. This catch-all is round setting on three ball feet. The handle to the overlapping lid is steel. It has a couple of light dents and measures 4" diameter and stands 2¾" tall. The second piece is a thick ridged glass container and the lid for this piece 2024 has a compass. The compass has a patent number and is marked 'Swiss'. It is 3" diameter and 4¼" tall. The last piece is an ink well with a pen rest. The ink well has a roll-back lid to reveal the glass well. The base has a felt bottom and measures 3¾" by 4¼". It is a gorgeous set from the 1930s.

*S. Sternau & Co was established in the 1890's in Brooklyn, N.Y. and operated between approximately 1890 and 1930. It made a variety of high quality brass, copper and nickel and silver plated products. Sternau is best known for its canned fuel which they invented around 1900. The fuel was marketed as Sterno. While Sternau is long gone, it's canned fuel product Sterno lives on. Sterno is still used to warm chafing dishes and cook on camp stoves."
