A beautiful, old, hand made Batik from Cirebon in Central Java. Tulis is the Indonesian word used to describe a batik that is totally handmade by "kanting" (pouring) the wax onto the material. It is not made by stamp or by mechanically printing onto the material. This is the traditional and most labour intensive way of making a batik.
Cirebon is a famous batik centre on the north coast of Java where the Chinese first introduced synthetic dyes and floral motifs. This batik has a beige background with garuda symbols, flowers and birds in very dark blue and brown design . It is in very good condition on soft cotton.
A Kain is a piece of 2024 material about 2 or a bit more metres in length. This one is 105cm high by 240cm long.
