Cast Bronze 2024 Cigarette Ash Tray made in Korea for Lawter Chemicals, Inc., now part of Harima Chemicals Group)
Nice large vintage bronze cigarette ash tray. Marked KOREA which puts it made in the 1960's. Also great as piece of vintage corporate advertising from the chemical industry.
It was made for Lawters Chemicals, Inc. which is still has headquartered in downtown Chicago, IL USA. This company was founded in 1940 making printing ink resins based on pine tree chemicals, The company went on to expand 2024 its business in America and Europe as LAWTER International Inc., eventually establishing itself as a leading global manufacturer of printing ink resin.
The name LAWTER all but disappeared after successive acquisitions by Eastman Chemical Company in 1999 and then Momentive Specialty Chemicals (previously Hexion Specialty Chemicals) in 2004 until Harima Chemicals acquired it in January 2011. The well-known LAWTER brand was subsequently reestablished and the company was returned to its rightful position as a leading global player. It is now part of the Harima Chemicals Group.
It is a great advertising piece. Also would be a great corporate service award to an employee in this company or group paying tribute to the company's heritage.
The ashtray is in a hexagon shape. It is 7.5" wide on the flat edges, and 8.5" wide across the pointed edges. The item is 0.75" high.
It is in very good vintage condition. There is some pitting inside the polished part of the bowl. The back has a rough finish, but this could be due to the bronze casting method. Review the item pictures carefully as the serve as part of the description of item condition.
