Product code: 1931 Knole And The Sackvilles Vita 2024 Sackville West Early Edition Illustrated Uncommon

A 1931 impression of the original of 1922. An uncommon volume in all editions. Vita Sackville-West's ode to her ancestral family mansion Knole, a place that meant a lot to her, and she always loved but, as a woman, could not inherit. A touching history of her home and family. Built after 1456, Knole became the Sackville estate thanks to Thomas Sackville, who made it their aristocratic treasure house. The family designed each room so they could impress their visitors and display their wealth. To this day, it is still very well preserved as an early Jacobean remodelling of a medieval archiepiscopal palace. The mansion is now part of the National Trust: "Knole wears its history gracefully – all six centuries of it. The size and grandeur of Knole are impressive in themselves, but those who live, work and visit here love its quiet dignity, its almost melancholy feel – the sparkling splendour has faded but its old, glinting beauty remains." In the publisher's original ivory cloth bind.Illustrated with a frontispiece and twenty four plates. Collated, complete.  Condition Report: 2024 In the original publisher's ivory cloth binding.
