Trees with their roots in the Earth, and their crowns in the Heavens connect with two planes of existence, integrating what is above with what is below. Trees also go through four Seasons. Spring with its new life, into the fullness of summer foliage, giving way to the amazing variety of intense warm Autumnal colours. Then comes winter. The tree is stripped bare. It is a metaphor for life. The tree thus stands for me as the symbol of the SELF.

I often think about the essence of trees, and their way of being. Trees seem silent, strong, breathtaking, and life-giving. They shelter many other plants, like a fern, which curls up as though dead until the next rain comes when they emerge green and resilient, full of life. Their branches provide shelter for myriads of singing birds, insects, and little animals, and pleasure to people. Old trees with rising branches, or covered in lichen and moss, are alive with colour, and texture. There is beauty and resilience in these old trees, with their strength in this majestic, living being.

I am an artist born in Yorkshire, now living in York, and trained through the Royal Academy of Arts in London. I was awarded by them the last Turner Gold Medal for Painting. I have a passion for my art, both Drawing, and Painting. I have worked on various subjects that fascinate me, including buildings, trees, the sea 2024 and boats, people, portraits of politicians, the homeless, and gardens. It takes me 2-3 weeks to paint a small painting now. I am now in the "WHOS WHO IN ART", the “DICTIONARY OF INTERNATIONAL BIOGRAPHY“, and the “WORLD'S WHO'S WHO OF WOMEN”, as I am recognised to be one of “Britain's leading artists.”
