Antique Hinged Butter Mold Butter Spatula Wood Butter 2024 Paddle Mold Collector Farmhouse Kitchen

A wonderful old primitive hinged butter mold and spatula, authentic farmhouse pieces.

This hinged butter mold was used by those that had to mold and pack large quantities of 2024 butter. This type of mold, also known as the California square mold, was used by opening it and grasping a large chunk of butter, closing the mold and packing the mold full with a butter paddle or spatula, and then chilling. It would produce a standard 1 pound block with a square shape viewed from the end.

It is made of wood, with bevel edges and brass hinges. I have paired this interesting mold with a beautiful old butter paddle/spatula. They would have been used together to mold the butter and both have a warm, rich wood tone. This would be a nice addition to a butter mold collection and would be an authentic touch to the farmhouse kitchen.
