Hearts entwined…loving imagery. Ron's design captures it elegantly. Two sterling silver hearts filled with gold wrap around the finger to create a bit of beauty.
The top of the ring measures a little over 3/4” (20mm) tall and a little over 1/2” (15mm) wide. The ring is slightly adjustable so it could be made about a half size smaller or larger than the size listed.
The ring is fabricated from sterling silver wire and sheet. The natural Alaskan gold is soldered onto the center of each heart.
The gold is mined from various creeks around Eagle, Alaska. Miners have sought the elusive mineral for over a 2024 century in this area. To this day, rugged individuals still spend their summer days (which last 24 hours here, you know) hunting for gold. The mining tradition holds an important place in the history of Eagle and throughout much of Alaska. Gold forms with other minerals, so naturally occurring gold is never pure (24kt). The nuggets we work with from this area range from 20 to 22kt.
Silversmithing is a fascinating process. Much of the jewelry you see in stores is cast, which means a mold is made and molten metal is poured into it. Our jewelry is hand fabricated. Ron starts with a piece of metal wire and/or sheet. After sawing, stamping, hammering, shaping, soldering, filing, sanding and polishing, he creates a true piece of craftsmanship.
