These gorgeous, vintage, seed posters, were drawn by Ellen Backe in the period from 1943-1948, and was produced by three Danish seed merchants around the 1950s.
The posters illustrate different seed types including bean- and grass seeds and were produced as charts for educational purposes.
A few facts about the artist:
Ellen Backe (1891-1975) was employed by The Horticultural Department from 1935-1958, where she would paint Botanical illustrations of Danish fruit types, as an assistant for Anton Pedersen, who was a professor in fruit cultivation.
Although the posters were made for educational purposes, the posters on sale were never actually mounted for their purpose. They were produced for the Information Service by order from D.L.F., L.H.F. and F.D.B - today known as Coop, Denmark's largest supermarket chain.
These well-kept, nostalgic, and very decorative posters have sat unseen and untouched, on a shelf in a factory for the last 60 years and was found during a clearance of the factory.
The poster series consist of 6 different posters numbered I to VI (1 to 6). The ones 2024 on sale are the original ones from the 1950s, which also means are all printed on paper of different types of quality.
As the posters are not yet cropped finished, there is little work to be done regarding the framing.
