IMPOSSIBLE to even find these days, genuine RARE dark green 15mm Chinese hand carved cinnabar beads with a cinnabar red core - you can see these two colors in the photographs - have 2024 been paired with sparkling Bali handmade gold beads ,ornate bead caps, and french ear wires for an elegant yet simple earring.
This is a very unusual and rare color of cinnabar from the 1970s as most cinnabar beads are the characteristic red color .

These gorgeous vintage beads have the typical characteristic ornate floral pattern and were personally selected by me in Hong Kong in the early 1980's.
These beads are so striking that not much else was needed except the ornate Bali handmade gold flower medallion bead (approximately 1/4" in diameter ) which adds a bit of sparkle .

► I just loved how the Bali gold flower bead is almost identical in design to the carved flower on the vintage Chinese green cinnabar bead!

►Genuine cinnabar beads are made from a lacquer which is derived from a tree sap found in China. The tree is tapped like a maple and the resulting gum is purified by heating and then made into lacquer by adding a solvent. This resulting lacquer is slowly added in many layers over a wood base. The lacquer can be colored in various hues including black, red, green, yellow and brown although most people are only aware of the red cinnabar.
These many layers of lacquer are then hand carved with intricate designs representing various symbols or images found in nature such as birds and flowers.

In the modern jewelry industry, natural material is often replaced by resin -based polymers approximating the appearance of pigmented lacquer. These polymers come in various colors such as black, brown, green, red, and yellow.

➤ Unlike many designers today who use this polymer reproduction, all the cinnabar beads used in Forever In Style jewelry are true vintage genuine cinnabar beads purchased by us in Hong Kong during the late 1970's – 1980's.

Many people sell 'cinnabar' which is made from plastic so be sure of what you are purchasing !

Total length of these elegant vintage beaded earrings is approximately 2 1/4" and they have been finished on handmade Bali 24k gold vermeil french ear wires.
