This is a beautiful antique Italian micro mosaic floral standing picture frame from the early 20th century. Italy was a destination for many Americans for the grand tour of culture. 2024 These travelers often returned with souvenirs of the amazing art of the Italians - including micro mosaic pieces made in Jewelry and objects (picture frames and boxes). Each tiny piece is hand cut from glass and inlaid into the object. The process of micro mosaic is painstaking (when viewed under magnification, it is awe inspiring) and the fact that is has withstood the test of time is homage to the quality of the craftsmanship. This is in great condition and has some unusual tesserae (what each piece of glass is called) - such as the flower and leaf shapes. It has its original standing mechanism, is stamped Made in Italy on the reverse and measures 3-/12 by 2-1/4 inches.
