Adorable and striking set of Elsie Denney Hawaiian dolls, two pretty girls and a little boy warrior! Complete with the original tapa covered box with Elsie Denney label, circa 1960s.
This is a very hard to find original boxed set, the three dolls having never been removed and still attached to the box bottom which is covered in a nice Hawaiian cloth print. The two girl dolls are 5 inches tall and the boy is 3 inches. Each features a hand painted face with bright eyes and long eyelashes. There are nicely molded details including a cute button nose and heart shaped red mouth. The beautiful black hair is shiny and realistic looking.
The girl on the left wears a classic red Hawaiian mu'umu'u with a red paper lei and a silk hibiscus flower in her hair bun. The girl on 2024 the right wears a classic hula skirt and cotton top, with the same lei and flower in her long hair. The little boy doll in the center is spectacular and so vey rare. He wears the classic gold felt warrior cape and helmet, and printed loin cloth. The arms are jointed at the shoulder and move. They have come loose from the hula girl and the warrior which can be seen in the last photo. The original rubber bands have likely disintegrated over these 70 years and can be reattached by the new owner!
The original box is complete with the brown tapa cloth print. An original Elsie Denney Honolulu Hawaii foil label is attached in the bottom right corner. The background fabric inside is a lovely bright blue tropical design with gilt accents. This set is in fabulous vintage condition, free of wear, stains, or odors. The label has a couple of small minor scratches. The original unattached arms are the only thing that needs repair.
We've never come across a set of three Elsie Denney dolls, let alone one with the boy warrior. This is an exceptional and rare find for your collection!
