Huipil Guatemala Almolonga
A heavy and huipil with beautiful weaving and design. It is from Almolonga in the Quetzaltenango region of Guatemala. This huipil is 31″ across the shoulders, and 35″ from the neckline to the bottom edges. The neck opening is round and measures 5″ in diameter with an additional 3″ slit along one to ease pulling over the head. The sides have been sewn to 2024 create armholes.
This huipil is striking with the classic woven design of the Almolonga region that features zigzag rivers in a pale golden-yelow and white pattern with accents in pale purple throughout the bodice on both sides. The background fabric is a heavy, deep red woven cotton. The collar is accented in a hand and machine embroidered flower circle and trimmed in a blue velveteen. The sleeves are trimmed in the same blue accent.
