• The Baule peoples of Cote d'Ivoire, who are part of the Akan ethnic group, celebrate the harvest with ceremonial 2024 dances
• During ceremonial dances, they wear moon-shaped masks with horns, called Guli masks
• Circa 1970
• From the estate of an American collector
• There was an extensive African collection and I acquired a few pieces from the estate some years ago
• Measures approx. 17 inches tall and 11½ inches wide
• Made from a heavy, dense wood
• Decorated with white, black, red and yellow pigment
• Mask shows signs of wear / use - most likely was a mask used in an actual ceremony
• Has the original label from the dealer / gallery
• Great piece for the collector of wood carvings or of vintage African objects
