A Mala

The word “Mala” is a Sanskrit word meaning “garland”. It is traditionally 108 beads knotted together, plus a “guru” or “meru” bead. The guru bead is the starting and ending point for your meditation but is also said to hold the intention or energy of your meditation practice. They encourage us to pause, to breathe, to be in self-care and self-compassion.
Malas have been used for prayer, meditation and mantras. Often called “prayer beads,” they can be worn without any specific religious or spiritual affiliation. They can be a gentle reminder of an intention you have set for yourself and to help keep the mind calm. Though malas have become a beautiful jewelry statement, I hold each mala sacred, with the offering of peace, joy, grounding and healing. They are a beautiful way to help focus your awareness during a mantra or affirmation meditation.

The metals I use are 14K gold filled, 14K and 24K gold vermeil and oxidized sterling silver, rhodium plated sterling silver and sterling silver. Each individual listing indicates which metal, or combinations of metals, is being used.
Gold vermeil is not gold plating! Gold vermeil is fine sterling silver dipped in 14k gold, vermeil style. The gold has approximately 40% more gold than standard gold plating, which often covers bronze or other base metals. Vermeil is always sterling silver dipped in 14k or 24k gold. That also means it can tarnish. The artisans from Thailand and Bali who make the gold vermeil pieces I use in my jewelry, work hard to craft the pieces as they require time, skill and patience. I have enormous appreciation for the dimension their skills add to my pieces.

Love matters! 2024 All the jewelry you see in this shop is handmade by me, using components ethically sourced from all over the world. The quality that makes handmade jewelry so special, is also the quality that can make it more delicate. I recommend you remove your jewelry before showering, swimming, working out or applying lotions or oils. When you are not wearing your jewelry, it is best to place it in an air-tight zip bag away from direct sunlight. Clean your jewelry with a soft polishing cloth. The more you love on it, the longer it will last.

I use only genuine, natural stones. I work hard to purchase my stones from ethically sourced suppliers from all over the world. Natural stones vary in color and make each piece one-of-a-kind. Many natural gemstones' qualities and color tones are hard to capture exactly in photos. I do my best to photograph my pieces as accurately as possible, but please understand that the stones in the jewelry you receive may have small differences in color tone and shape due to the organic quality of natural stones, and my limited photography skills. (I try hard though!!)
