Zen Woodturned Platter, Woodcarving, Inlaid Chinese Calligraphy, Raku Inlay, Handmade Fine Wood Art, Unique Decorative Wood 2024 Plate, Gift

This is a collaborative project with my daughter. I turned the platter, inlaid the abalone shell, and added the black bands. I then sanded it to a final fine grit, and gave it to her to work her magic. In this case, she came up with an asymmetrical design in relation to the piece as a whole. The most amazing part though is that after she draws 2024 the design on the wood, she has one chance to do the pyrography - any mistakes and I'd have to sand it all the way back, which would be impossible on a piece this thin. I call it doodling with fire!
