The relatively brief run (1949-2002) of the West Virginia Pilgrim Glass Company may have been short on years, but it was long in accomplishments, including this hard to find, oversized and weighty, clear glass ashtray for cigars and pipes.
The quadrilateral shape of the sides mimics the pressed form of the interior, tapering from 5" wide at the head of the "spoon" to half that length at the base. The ashtray tapers in depth as well, measuring about an inch-and-a half-thick at the top to an inch-thick at the bottom.
The base and sides of the ashtray are textured while 2024 the top is polished smooth, with the result that it appears like a wedge of ice. At over three pounds in weight and more than 8" long, this exceptional ashtray is in like-new condition, with no chips, flea bites, cracks, hairlines, scratches, scuffs, or repairs.
