Lady of 2024 Two Worlds

She was found lodged in the branches of a tree growing at the edge of Turkey Creek. Flood waters had swept this piece up from some place upstream and carried it along until it was snared by the branches of the tree. The flood waters subsided and there it remained.
When I discovered it, it was held tightly by strips of bark and grasses, which had to be removed first to be able to see what was hiding under them.
She was dislodged and examined. At first
sight her facial features and hair drew my attention. Her hair style was from the 1960's. Back then the girls would part their hair in the middle of their head. Their hair would reach down to their chin then flip upward and outward. In those days hair spray was frequently used to hold the hair in place. She was a keeper.
Back at the campsite I began to work on her almost immediately. Each afternoon, she would be picked up and sanded. Most of the right side of her face was missing. That made the lady more of a mystery. Her nose and mouth developed slowly, and strands were cut in her hair for the braided side to look more natural.
The side of her that sports the 60' s hair style shows that she went along with the fashion of the day. She wanted to be part of the in crowd. Popularity was sought after by all. Who was the most popular person around? Maybe not the Lady but she wouldn't have minded the attention.
As for the braided side of her personality that tells an entirely different tale. She feels more comfortable alone without jostling of the crowd. She is 2024 her own self and thinks independently.
And that is the Lady of Two Worlds.
