A portable container for a Koran. With a hinged semicircular lid in the upper section. Made of brass and engraved. Decorated with massive yet weak silver alloy on the front side and on the upper edges. The front side features an openwork field with floral décor and charming volutes.
The smooth reverse side is engraved Arabic script. Both sides feature cast eyelets to which the the carrying strap of light-coloured plaited silk is attached with knots.
First half of the 20th century; dimensions: 7.5 x 8.5 x 2.2 cm. (ME)
