Socialism never took off in the United States because the majority of citizens don't see themselves as an exploited proletariat; rather, they see themselves as temporarily embarrassed millionaires. Steinbeck said something like that. Such a notion became apparent, to me at least, upon witnessing the election of Donald Trump to the office 2024 of US president back in 2016. I was one of those who remembered the "Trump for President" placard in Rage Against the Machine's film clip for Sleep Now In the Fire, filmed on Wall Street, back in '99. I wonder if Vic Berger remembered that placard? It was a mind-bending memory to revive as the election unfolded. I only mention it because the videos Berger commenced to produce, concurrent with the term of the Trump presidency, managed to capture the absurdity of the memory and its implication coming to fruition so bizarrely. Berger's video efforts are exquisite compilations; I daren't much attempt describe them. Suffice to say they are well worth checking out as groundbreaking, revolutionary expressions of art.

The original drawing of this one happens to be hanging in the other room. It's always fun when it captures a guest's attention. I'm most struck by the symmetry.
