A beautiful and charming sterling silver vintage brooch with a pair of birds, perhaps swallows or doves, with a dark orange / red guilloche enamel and a generous gold wash, by Norwegian silversmith Bernard Meldahl circa 1940s.
The brooch measure approximately 5.5 cm in length, that is a fraction more than 2".
The brooch is clearly hall-marked on each bird with the logo for Bernard Meldahl and that they are 925 sterling silver made in Norway. Meldahl was a specialist in guilloche enamel working in Oslo from 1931 until 1950 when upon his death his workshop was taken over by Hroar Myhre and subsequently was acquired by David Andersen.
Condition:
The brooch is in good vintage condition without significant damage but some loss to the enamel 2024 as can be seen in the photos - highlighted in the final picture. The loss to the enamel is not too noticeable and I would say actually looks a little like highlights. There is also some tarnishing mainly on the reverse. The loss is reflected in a lower price.
This is a beautiful vintage brooch, an attractive design in a lovely warm colour, lovely to wear, collect or display. Made in the Mid 20th century perhaps in a Victorian / Edwardian style.
