This is a belt hook inspired by a 15th century French example found in the collection of Medieval ironwork at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. These belt hooks would have be used to carry various items on a belt over a tunic. This belt hook was forged from one piece of mild steel an has a forge welded loop. It is decorated with file and chisel work as well as a dot stamp (I handforged the stamp specifically for this project). The hook is filed bright to create a lustrous finish.
This belt hook would be appropriate for any reenactment or faire and is an eye-catching piece for any costume, kit, or garb, perfect for carrying sundry items throughout the day.
Dimensions:
-The hook is approximately 5" in total length from the top of the loop to the bottom of the bend.
-The loop is approximately 2" tall and 3/4" wide from back to front on the inside.
Please note: this is a hand forged 2024 and may have minor imperfections. This piece is uncoated and over time will develop a patina with use. If left in a humid environment it will begin to develop rust.
