Impressive leather edition of the Smithsonian's The Story of the West edited by Robert M. Utley. The Easton Press, in collaboration with the Smithsonian 2024 Institution and the Dorling Kindersley Publishing Company, produced this handsome, oversized (12” x 10”) book filled with maps, illustrations, and early photos of America's Old West.
The book is over-sized, measuring approximately 12" x 10" x 1", and the 319 pages contain hundreds of illustrations and photographs. This book was curated from the extensive private collection of Edward Butterworth's personal conservatory. Mr. Butterworth's was an accomplished graduate of Stanford and Stanford Law, as well as the recipient of Felix Frankfurter Law Scholarship at Harvard Law School. He served as a Naval Officer during WWII. After the war, Mr. Butterworth became a deputy in the Office of the Solicitor General of the United State and then opened his own law practice in downtown Los Angeles. His extensive career includes precedent setting cases that went to the Supreme Court, nearly twenty years as the President and CEO of FEDCO Department Store, as well as serving twice as mayor during the dozen years he served on the Arcadia city council.
