Rare EJD Bodley England Antique Shell & Coral Plate-Hand Painted English 2024 Ironstone Limoges Inspired Scalloped w/ Encrusted Gold
Offering an antique Edwin J.D. Bodley of Staffordshire, England, ironstone plate, elaborately decorated with a shell and coral motif.
The plate was likely created for serving a fish course in the Victorian era, circa 1840s. The edges are scalloped, with three shell form fans alternating with three slightly less elaborate sections. The fans are handpainted with encrusted gold leaf 'corals,' while raised handpainted gold and silver corals ring the inner verge of the plate. The 2024 outer scalloped rim is finished with hand applied gold leaf.
'Bodley' is impressed in block letters underglaze on the base - last photo.
Size: 9" diameter.
Condition: Excellent antique condition. No chips, cracks, fleabites or other issues. The gold and other decor is strong and complete.
