This is a beautiful hand made and hand painted bright red dala horse made in Sweden, probably in the 70s. It is painted in the traditional Kurbit (flowered) style by the Nils Olsson group of workmen. It is often given on important occasions as a symbol of luck. “The Dala Horse gained 2024 international popularity when it was chosen by the National Crafts Union for part of the Swedish display at the Paris Exposition in the mid-19th century.” Because of its popularity since the worlds fair in 1934 where a giant painted dala stood in front of the Swedish pavilion, it has become a symbol of Sweden.
This horse measures about 8” x 7.5” x 2,” I believe it is from the 70s and is in lovely condition. There are a couple of very minor scuffs but you have to look for them. The horse has a shiny red lacquer finish. The original label is still attached. It is a beautiful Swedish, Scandinavian folk art decoration! This beautiful red piece will add a pop of folk art color where it sits.
