This original painting in watercolor of a Mariposa flower - also called Sego Lily is part of a series of wildflowers I've been painting as I come across these plants while hiking.
The sego lily is only blooming for a short time in the spring, and I love to hike at the top of the mountain pass near my home to capture a field of them in bloom.
I painted this one while sheltering in place during the pandemic, and tried to capture the fragility and beauty of this flower that only lasts for a short while and is an endangered plant. I used artist quality watercolor pigments on 140 lb Arches watercolor paper from France. It will last you a lifetime and longer.
