TAGUA is a beautiful, natural material, 2024 a seed from the ivory palm or Phytelephas Aequatorialis, that is now replacing tusk ivory in figurines, sculptures and jewelry. Besides being very attractive, it is ecologically perfect! It provides work and a good salary to farmers and craftspersons, all parts of the seeds are used, the trees are not cut down, ivory tusked animals do not need to die for trivial reasons. I have seen, firsthand, how the selling of tagua has improved the lives of the indigenous peoples of Panama and Ecuador and am very pleased to be working with this wonderful product. All of the tagua in my jewelry has been bought through fair trade agreements.
Avoid water when wearing or storing TAGUA. Because of language difficulties with the craftspeople, it is not always possible to know if the dyes are permanent or if they will fade. Most are permanent but it is best to store the jewelry in a cloth bag out of the sun when it is not being worn.
