OWENS + ELMES SNAKESKIN Handbag is late 40's. Excellent vintage shape. Clean, no stains or scale wear. 2024 Hardly, if ever used. Natural Python
OWENS + ELMES natural Python Handbag is late 1940's and appears hardly, if ever, used.
Very 2024 clean, no stains or scale wear. The gold-toned metal trim and catch which closes strongly are in gleaming scratch- free shape inside and out.
There is slight disturbance to the metal on one front corner square, which doesn't affect the beauty. There is a tiny bit of wear from the metal V ring to the snake covering the frame on one side only, not noticeable.
A few of the scales on both sides of the front where the snakeskin wraps around the top-sewn edge show some pull. This is not from wear but is common with python due to the nature of the scales. It does not affect the integrity. See photos.
Inside is leather lined with no cracks or stains. Two pockets, one has well working metal zipper.
Top handle strap is leather on underside with no cracking.
Length 11.75 inch
Height 6.75 "
Gusset width at bottom 2 "
A finely made handbag showing various rich brown to black tones in the python scale pattern, along with hand done edge tinting.
Owens + Elmes made high quality accessories including shoes. They had a store at 151 Yonge Street, Toronto, in the 1950's. Items still in fine shape bearing their name are quite sought after.
