Up for sale today is this Connecticut Turnpike route sign. Made to the exact state standard, as used between 1958 and 1985. the Turnpike opened in 1958 as a connector between New York and Rhode Island, and was a toll road until 1985 when it became a free road, with just the designations of interstates 95 and 395. at that point, these circular Turnpike route markers vanished from service. the last known one hung on until approximately 2010 ... in none other than the Bronx, New York City!
An original of these is very rare to find scrapped, as they have been recycled into guardrails decades ago. So here is your chance to own an excellent display piece, without breaking the bank.
The sign is flat printed with completely accurate layout and fonts. It comes in 16, 20, 24, and 36 inches diameters.
This is a high quality, heavy steel sign. accept no imitations that may be one-third this price, but are one-tenth the quality. No cheap tin to be found here, with the wrong fonts, layouts, size, shape, or any other manner of embarrassing imperfection. This one will make even the most discerning collector stick their nose into the sign, as it looks that good from that close!
I can of course make these signs with any route number of your choice, and not just this style, but others with the reflectors, the 2024 embossed style that other states used, and even the classic mileage, direction, and city limit guide signs from the era. Anything you would like, made with unsurpassed quality right here in the good old US of A.
